White-tailed deer by gnohz White-tailed deer by gnohz
White-tailed deer, Alberta, Canada. Photographing this deer really required a lot of effort and patience, especially wild ones which are not accustomed to the presence of humans.

For this shot, I recall getting really low and moving towards the deer while taking small steps in that low, squatting position. It was painful and physically demanding. On every instance the deer turned in my direction, I froze. I was quite sure it smelt my presence, very sure. In the end, I think it took a couple of hours before I was able to get the look I wanted.

The light was perfect at this time. The only thing is about waiting for her to get to the right spot and turn in the right direction to get the golden rim light on her side :D

Yes, this was taken in Canada, a place I strongly recommend! :thumbsup:

well not exactly in the city of LA. in fact LA is far, 30 minutes (or more) away from my house. the city I live in is in Montclair. ;)

I see! Actually I do prefer slightly rural areas (not sure if Montclair is one :D ) for being quieter and away from the fast-paced city life :D
But anyway 30 minutes might not be that far away after all :D

Really a great shot, but a question I have, how do you find them? I mean, I got also a 300mm Lense like u have, so the zoom wouldn't be the problem, but my one is how to find the animals at day or night, since they are pretty fast feared :p

Hi Daniel :wave:
For this shot, actually I found it by chance. Saw it very far away, but I know that it's shy, that's why I decided to take it one step at a time and tried to camouflage myself. Extremely demanding physically ^^;
The time of the day was early morning so it was out to feed :D

It's a beautiful image!
It's also nice to see here in D.A. an animal's photo that's not been taken in a zoological park.

Aww thanks for your kind comment David!
It was also a great experience to see wild animals in their habitat. They behave differently too :w00t:

Taking pictures of wolves could be very dangerous. You would need a really long and huge lens for that ^^;
